How Do I Find Out if a Gunther Gerzso Print or Sculpture is Authentic?

This is a complement to the note “How Do I Know if a Gunther Gerzso Painting is Authentic? Part 2 Physical Characteristics” and covers Gerzso’s prints and sculptures.

In contrast to his record keeping of his paintings, the files on prints and sculptures appear not to be as well organized and complete. Many of the prints do have individual files of each edition, and some of the sculptures have only the design drawings.

Print Media

The following is a list of most of the print media used. (Refer to descriptions on the Internet, and specifically Wikipedia.

None of the approximately 100 editions were printed in Gerzso’s studio. They were either done in shops in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Albuquerque, NM, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

Print Sizes

In general, the minimum height of the print paper is 18 in as well as the minimum width. The maximum height is 34 in, and the maximum width is 39 in. An exception is Na-Bolom which the paper measures 40x53in.

The minimum height of the image printed is 12in, and the maximum is 30in.

Individual Sculptures and Editions or Lots.

Usually, only one bronze sculpture was cast. On the other hand, silver sculptures made by Tane, in 2 editions or lots of approximately 30 items.

Sculpture Materials

A complete list of sculpture materials has not been compiled yet. However, they do include cast bronze, and silver. Bronze sculptures were fabricated in the Mexico City area or the United States. The silver sculptures were made by Tane of Mexico City.
